Privacy Policy

1. Data We Collect

• Account data: Your name and email address when you sign up.
• Career data: Work history, skills, career goals, and job preferences you share during onboarding.
• Job search data: Job listings we find for you, fit scores, resume drafts, and application status updates.
• Google OAuth tokens: If you connect Google Drive, we store OAuth access and refresh tokens to write files to your Drive on your behalf.
• Payment data: A third-party payment processor handles billing. We do not store credit card details.
• Usage data: Logs for debugging and service improvement (e.g. search run timestamps, error logs).

2. How We Use Your Data

• To run automated job searches on your behalf using your target job titles and preferences.
• To generate tailored resumes using AI based on your real career background.
• To email you resume documents and job digest summaries.
• To save resume files to your connected Google Drive (if you authorise this).
• To process subscription payments securely through our payment processor.
• To send transactional emails related to your account and service.

3. Third-Party Services

To provide the Vela service, we work with trusted third-party providers in the following categories. Each provider maintains its own privacy policy and data handling practices.

• AI service providers — Power resume generation, job-fit scoring, and onboarding conversations.
• Job search aggregation services — Search job boards across the web to find relevant postings on your behalf.
• Email delivery services — Deliver transactional emails such as job digests, resume delivery, and account notifications.
• Cloud file storage (Google Drive) — Used only if you explicitly connect your Google account. Files are written to your personal Drive.
• Payment processing services — Handle subscription billing and payment processing. We do not store credit card details.
• Cloud database and authentication providers — Host our database and manage secure user authentication.
• Web hosting providers — Host the Vela web application and ensure reliable uptime.

4. Data Retention & Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from your Profile page.

Upon account deletion or 30 days of inactivity (Basic plan) or 30 days after subscription cancellation (Plus/Pro plans), your account will be scheduled for deletion. After scheduling, your personal data (name, email, work history, job listings, resumes) will be permanently removed within 30 days.

Phone numbers are retained in hashed form for 30 days after account deletion to prevent abuse of our free trial system. After this period, all traces of your phone number are permanently deleted.

Google OAuth tokens are deleted immediately if you disconnect Google Drive from your account settings.

5. Security & URL Safety

Job listing URLs are screened for safety before being shown to you. We filter out URLs associated with known phishing patterns, suspicious domains, and potentially harmful websites.

6. AI-Powered Cover Letter Generation

Plus and Pro plan users may generate AI-powered cover letters. These are created using your profile information and the specific job description. Cover letter content is not stored permanently — it is generated on demand and emailed to you.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@velacareer.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties. Your career information is used solely to provide the Vela service to you.

9. Google API Services — Limited Use Disclosure

Vela's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

When you connect your Google account, Vela requests access to create files in your Google Drive and create Google Docs on your behalf. This access is used solely to save resume documents that Vela generates for you. Specifically:

• Vela only accesses files and folders that it creates — it does not read, modify, or delete any other files in your Google Drive.
• Google user data is not used for serving advertisements or transferred to advertising platforms.
• Google user data is not sold to third parties, data brokers, or information resellers.
• Google user data is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
• You can disconnect your Google account at any time from your dashboard settings, which immediately revokes Vela's access and deletes your stored OAuth tokens.
